Under The Gun.

I must have posted dozens of 'fling ball at blocks to knock them over' style games since this blog took its first quivering steps into the sunlight. So it pleases me to be able to bring you one that has something new to offer. A whole new dimension, to be exact.

Yes, This is Gun 3D and it really adds some depth to the genre. Ho ho.

It's very plain, to be honest. But I'm promoting it because it reminds me of a perennial fave: Boom Blox.

Hopefully this will provide a stepping stone to some exciting new ball-flingers. It's a brave new world.

Die, Robot.

Evening, all.
Wanna play a game? 2 games, even? Good, because that just so happens to be the content of this plinx post. What an astonishing coincidence.

These games are the two entries in a series called Crash the Robot. It's a physics puzzler that tasks you with arranging elements of a level so that the end result is the destruction of a hapless robot. Sounds mean, and it is. But it's ok, it's just a game.

The games feature balls, boxes, bombs, balloons, bounce-pads, buzzsaws and err... cannons. Generally the aim is to activate switches in the correct order to spell doom for your mechanical mate. Alarmingly, the switches in some levels seem to make him suicidal, as he'll pull out a drill, a hammer or some other device and voluntarily dismantle himself. Chilling.

Anyway, have fun!

Midas Touch.

Cripes, it feels like forever since I plinked a game. That's what happens when I spend the whole of December posting videos.

So here is a physics puzzle platformer that looks deceptively simple but very quickly reveals itself to be infuriatingly deep. It's called Midas and in between each bite-sized level, it has a pithy statement telling part of the story of King Midas (the dude who turned everything he touched to gold, if you forgot).

Fun times, then albeit tough. Have a go:

Out On A Limb.

GAMES.
Yeah, I haven't posted in a while. Sorry. Here's something to play with to keep you distracted. 2 things, even.

First of all, a game where success will cost you an arm and a leg, literally. It's called Pursuit Of Hat and your protagonist is a cheerful looking blobby fella with detachable limbs. He desperately wants his fetching purple bowler hat back and you'll need to rip off and reattach bits of yourself in order to do it. For such a stomach-churning sounding concept, it's all very sweet. Give it a shot:

Pursuit Of Hat.

Secondly, an old internet stalwart; Ninjas. They're everywhere on the world wide web, the stealthy blighters. Where are they all coming from? Where do they learn their skills? Well, I'll tell you! Sticky Ninja Academy, that's where. This is a physics-y game involving flinging a ninja about, making him stick to walls, knock out other, presumably evil ninjas and nab some precious gold before making it to the exit. This is good, solid fun and the way your li'l assassin goes into a flying kick pose whenever thrown is just adorable.

Sticky Ninja Academy.

There you go, fill your virtual boots. See you next time.

Monochromantics.

Hi, 2 games today that fit into that wildly popular genre - 'ludicrous physics games starring black & white animals'.

First off, a zebra. Doing what zebras do best, making his way across the savannah... in a car. The game is Safari Drive and you need to get the motorized mammal from the left side of the screen to the right by clicking on objects littered about the stage to remove them. It's a fairly fun and straightforward jaunt with some enjoyably odd facial expressions from the zebra. So give it a spin.

Next, it's perhaps the most beloved of all the two-tone creatures, the penguin. This particular penguin wins extra points for wearing a trenchcoat and packing heat. Why? Well to kill zombies, of course! Lots of ricocheting rounds and smashable furniture in this one: Zombies vs Penguins. Whee!

Aaaaand that's your lot. Until next time, pals.

Sty Stallone.

Evening all.
It's game time. I hope you're ready, because it's the bottom of the ninth, the bases are loaded and I've run out of baseball clichés. Should probably have picked a sport I know more about. Or just not persevered quite as far with this tawdry introduction.

Either way, you're about to play a game where a pig in a bandana uses an arsenal of weaponry to take out other, presumably evil, pigs.

It's a 2D physics puzzle game, like so many that have gone before but the quality is elevated by the variety of weapons and intelligent level design. Also, if you run out of levels to play, there is a whole gallery of user-generated ones.

It's good, wholesome, cartoony, pig-murderin' fun for all the family.

It's Hambo!

On The 19th Day Of PlinXmas!

Hey, I'll have to make this quick as we are currently having a barbecue! Yeah, housemate James chiselled it out of the ice block it was in and fired it up. If I stay here too long, I might miss the burgers.

Anyway, do you remember back on day 5 when I said that Santa has 31 hours to deliver all the presents?

Well that wasn't just some made up number, that is the actual number of hours he would have, assuming he flew East to West, due to the rotation of the Earth and the different time zones.

That's just one of the conclusions drawn from this article called:

Is There A Santa Claus? - A Physicist View.

It's an interesting read, check it out.

Why does Santa Claus have three gardens?

So he can Hoe-Hoe-Hoe!

Planet Plate.

Afternoon. In honour of the official start of the World Cup, have a football themed phuzzle game. It's called Soccer Balls and the link to real football is nice 'n' tenuous.

Basically, kick the football at the ref. Pass it between team-mates where neccessary. It's good fun and won't tax the grey matter too much but it is oddly compelling. Mainly because the refs get so angry that their heads pop off and bounce about. Anyway, enjoy!

Paul Is Games.

Hiya. I'm gonna make this quick because I'm supposed to be studying.

It's been a while since I showed you some games you didn't have to pay for. So today, I'm essentially letting you loose in an arcade with a never ending bag of 20p coins.

It's killing me that there isn't a way to combine 'plinx' and 'arcade' in a satisfactory manner that I could then use to describe posts like this from now until the end of time. Ideas on a postcard, kids.

Down to business. Earlier in the year, I linked you to a game called Blosics. Well now there's a sequel which improves on the original in every way, like a good sequel should but rarely does. There are more ball types, more block types, more of everything basically. So go play Blosics 2.

Onwards and upwards, quite literally. to a fast-paced platform game in the skies! It's called G-Switch and bears some resemblance to the previously plinked Canabalt but with a couple of important differences. It has a neat gravity-switching mechanic AND if you happen to be surrounded by enough people, you can play it in a frankly manic 6 player mode!

Finally, and to round out a trio of 'games that can be linked to other games previously featured in the blog' (now THAT is catchy) here's Mogo-Mogo. From the makers of Little Wheel, and if you remember that game, you should have all the reason you need to play this one. Stylistically fantastic and well thought out. it's a pointy clicky masterclass.

That's your lot. Have fun! I'm off to stick my nose in a book about computers. I think we know who got the better deal here.

Never Mind The Blosics.

Hello, ready for your first physics game of the new year? This has actually been around a while but it got ignored in my scramble to provide christmas themed plinx.

It's called Blosics and it's a game in the 'chucky-ball-bouncy-knock-over-blocks' mould. But it's a good one!

You choose the power and direction of your shot and try to knock the green blocks off screen while (in some levels) keeping the red ones on screen. Also, there's a strategic decision to be made when choosing the size of your shot because it will detract from your score which needs to be over 100 for you to advance...

Ok, so that sounds more complicated then it actually is. Just play it and you'll pick it up in a snap. Also, the sound effects are pretty funny.

Play Blosics!

Plinxenstein's Monster.

BOO. Yeah, it is Hallowe'en and as such, I am bringing you a spooky games arcade to keep you entertained/cowering in fear, depending on how much of a sissy-pants you are.

First up: Some shooting courtesy of the ever-reliable Nitrome. Graveyard Shift is as close to a lightgun shooter style arcade game as you're likely to get in your browser. It requires you to shoot and zombies and other assorted nasties, rescue defenceless maidens and block incoming fire. All in the charismatic Nitome pixelly style. Fun Times.

Now no plinx gamestravaganza would be complete without a little physics puzzle game. Oh lordy how I love 'em. So here's Pumpkin Remover. A spookified version of the previously plinked Red Remover. The premise is the same, click the rotting pumpkins to get them off the screen and preserve the fresh ones. Go.

Lastly, an entirely insane action game about a killer shark terrorising Miami. It's... Miami Shark and is frenetic lunacy. Jump out of the water and bite people, boats, planes and anything else you can get your fearsome jaws around. It only has a tenuous connection to Hallowe'en but hey, bite me. No, not you Miami Shark. AIIIIEEEE!

To The Max.

OK, Physics games, yeah? I post a lot of them. This is because I enjoy the core concept behind them and am willing to forgive slight faults because I know there is fun to be had. But this... this has basically been targetted with laser precision directly at me personally.

It's a game called Max Damage and it's first level opens with the message: "This is Max. He likes to break things."

What a coincidence! I like to break things too!

What follows is a fairly standard 'shoot things out of a cannon to knock objects over or smash them' type affair, but with the added bonus that you're breaking things and the destruction is being measured monetarily. Woo!

Anyways, go play it. Right now.

Max Damage.

Dasvidaniya, Comrade.

Today's game is Red Remover. A deeply serious, dense, political text adventure about ousting communism from The Soviet Republic. Each session of the game requires 4 hours of your time and you will emerge feeling drained of all your energy and any sense you may have had that the world we live in is a joyful and happy place.

Jus' kiddin'. It's a physics game, innit?

Click to remove certain blocks, the aim is to keep all the green shapes safe, while eliminating the vile red menace. Starts off simple, then you have to deal with different planes of gravity. It's good fun and compelling, plus the little smiley faces that all the blocks have are adorable. So give it a go.

Make Like A Banana,

Hello, I had a game lined up for you today, then just as I was about to come here and post it, I had a quick look at JayIsGames.com (a splendid repository of games. Highly recommended) and I saw that there is now a sequel to one of my favourite online flash games: The previously plinked 'Splitter'. So now I'm going to rush this one so I can get back to playing it!

The rules are the same as the first one so check Here if you need to know what's going on.

Go play Splitter 2 and stop bothering me!

Rations.

Howdy doody. I am off to Latitude Festival tomorrow (squeeeee!) so I won't be here to keep you entertained for a while. I know you must be inconsolable, but it will be ok! I have a triple-bill of plinx to tide you over until my triumphant return.

I'm supposed to be packing right now so let's crack on shall we?

First, the most time consuming of the trio, it's a physics game! I like 'em, what can I say. This one is called 'Demolition City' and it is all about planting explosives in the correct places to bring down a building. It's fun and you can play it Here.

Next (oh yes, no mucking about today) is a rather eye-opening photoset which shows how newspapers, magazines, brochures, etc edit photos to either artificially insert or remove black people. It's quite shocking how flagrantly they do this and also how badly implemented it is! Case in point:

If you can't see what is wrong here or you'd just like to see some more examples, check out the Whole Set.

Last of all, this may seem like a strange one to include as it is a video about how to peel a banana. Anyone who knows me will know I don't eat bananas. Although it is a fun word to type! Banana. Hee! Ahem, anyway. But yeah, it turns out you've been peeling them wrong all this time. You dope! Check it out:

Youtube Link.

Enlightening! Anyway, have fun kids. I'll see you when I get back. Byeeeeee.

Dance Your Cares Away.

So today's game *BOOM* as I say, today's game is a bit *BOOM* a bit dis*BOOM* it's a bit distracting! No matter what else you may be trying to do, you keep getting drawn back for one more go at blowing up the weird smiley guys. *BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM*

Ahem. Right, The game is Fragger. The aim of said game is to blow up all the bad guys with your collection of grenades. The less grenades you use, the more points you score. It's really a meaningful display of the importance of managing your dwindling resources DISGUISED as an excuse to blow up loads of dudes... *BOOM*

Anyway, s'fun! Go play Fragger.

*BOOM*

Crush, Kill, Destroy.

Hey hey. Time to play a game. This one is called Crush the Castle and it's smashy, physics-enabled fun. Which is the best type of fun, of course. The objective is to use your trebuchet to knock over a series of castles, splatting everyone within. And who doesn't love doing that, right?! It takes a while to offer any serious challenge but there's a decent number of levels and the different types of ammo keep things interesting. Also, if you've blitzed through the main game, you can make your own levels. What more could you want?

So go ahead and Crush The Castle!

Balls To Civilisation.

If you've been paying attention, you'll have noticed that I love physics based flash games. Being able to predict the paths of a load of coloured balls with faces as you guide them into ornate pots by severing their chains and using cannons and catapults by applying the rules of a realistic physics engine is a great feeling. As that titan of children's broadcasting would say; Try it yourself!

Civiballs!

You & Me Have A Disease.

Oh lordy lordy, how I love a good physics-based puzzle game. Recently there have been loads of them because some spod created something called the Box2D physics engine and... no wait, come back! Ok, I get that you don't care about this stuff. I'll just get on with it. This one is called Colour Infection (it's actually called 'color' infection but I'm using the proper spelling) and the name is apt. Not only does it apply to the gameplay, which involves 'infecting' coloured balls by touching them to change their hue but also, the colour scheme is every bit as gross as a game with 'infection' in the title would suggest. Anyway, that's enough of that. There are 2 parts and you should play them!

Part 1.
Part 2.

Judean People's Front.

I love physics-based games. Love 'em. (This is why I'm so excited to go and pick up LittleBigPlanet in a few hours. Squee!) There are loads of them online, some no more than throwaway webtoys and some are games with a surprising depth. Splitter, however is a good balance. It has enough content to keep you playing for a while but it's not so fiendishly difficult that you give up after a few levels.
The premise is simple. You have to get your little smiley ball-thing to the exit, hopefully picking up stars along the way. To achieve this, you need to cut through (or split) the wooden blocks holding him up. Draw lines with your cursor to chop bits off. Easy peasy. Go.
