Palatable.

It works like this: Food is good. Art is good. Therefore, art made of food is doubleplusgood. QED.

With that in mind, take a look at this:

Any guesses what medium the artist used? No 'food' isn't a good enough answer. It is in fact comprised of thousands of Jellybeans! Pretty cool, eh? Check out some more works of sweet, sweet art HERE.

While we're on the subject, what do you suppose this is:

It's a cake! No lie.
Made by an artist called Debbie Goard, see some more of her work HERE.

While we're on cakes, I have one more to show you. Even though I'm telling you, right here that what you're about to see is a cake, you won't believe it when you click the link. I'm having trouble processing it myself.

Ready?

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2012, guys. Hope you had a fun new year experience.

As is customary, I'm going to kick off the year with some pictures of new year festivities around the globe.

First, here's an astonishing picture from right here in our own capital city.

Pretty sweet, eh? Looks like a scene from V for Vendetta.

Bizarrely, in Georgia they have Santas shambling around like zombies!

Even the Vikings got involved in Edinburgh.

All these pics and more, including loads of spectacular fireworks displays, can be found Here.

See you soon!

Gnarly Gnoses.

Cowabunga, dudes.
Hey remember Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Of course you do, TMN(or H)T is one of the most enduring pop culture phenomena of the 90s.

Not had much going on lately though, I suppose. But that changes right now! I'm about to show you something that like the Dog-mask Ducks will alter the way you look at the world forever. Did you know that everyone has an approximation of one of the Ninja Turtles on their face ALL THE TIME?

Don't believe me? Well, that's fair enough. It's a bold claim. However, try arguing with this:

POW. Proof positive. No-one is immune. Obama, Ghandi, The Governator, umm... Sting?

Anyway, it's amazing and has made me laugh consistently over the last few days. Why not try making your own?

Incurable Stealie-o-holicism.

Cripes, it's been a weird couple of days, hasn't it? If you live in one of the areas where there has been rioting, I hope you've remained relatively unaffected.

It's been really disheartening, watching all the terrible behaviour on the news. Seeing how it'll affect blameless business/homeowners who will have a really tough time getting back on their feet.

However, in the aftermath, it was great to see good-hearted individuals coming together to help fix things. I love a bit of indomitable human spirit, me.

In a similar vein, I'm glad that some people are doing their bit to bring a smile back to our faces by looking at a tragic situation and seeing the funny side. So today I bring you PhotoshopLooter

It's a collection of cleverly doctored images of the twats doing all the stealing and smashing. See below for examples:

Exhibit I.

Hey so Facebook is pretty neat, huh? It's handy for keeping in touch with friends and for sharing pictures, videos and links.

Once you've created your profile, anyone can come poke about in what is, essentially, a shrine to you. Everything you say, everywhere you go, every picture of you. It's all there. A treasure trove of information about you that would make the most committed stalker look sheepish. It's almost like a museum

That's exactly what you'll find here at the Intel-sponsored Museum Of Me. To tell you any more would spoil it. Just click through and grant it access to your facebook profile. You won't regret it, promise.

It's A Hoot Hoot.

Hello all. Hope your weekends were fruitful.
I spent a lot of mine playing LBP2, predictably. It's so great. I'll write more about it sometime in the week.

Today however, I have something that just doesn't feature enough in everyday life:

Hungover Owls.

Yeah. Somebody has dedicated a blog to finding pictures of owls that look like they're suffering after a big night. Once again, it's stuff like this that makes me love the internet.

The blog has an astonishing 14 pages of worse-for-wear owls already, each with a smirk-worthy caption. You should check it out, and you can do so Here!

Happy New Year?

Humm, so I suppose I'm a few days late. But hey, after the posting marathon that was the advent calendar, I reckon I deserved a bit of a break!

Anyway, as you may have noticed, it is now space year 2011 and a new year means one thing here on Plinx. Hell it's as close to a 'tradition' that exists on this particular slice of the interpie.

Yup, just like Last Year and The Year Before That, I am bringing you the Boston.com new year photo showcase.

Much like the 'Christmas Around The World' set that I posted recently, this set focuses on how various chunks of the planet ring in the new year. The photo above was taken in Manila and this next one shows how they do things in New York, New York.

Not bad, not bad, but we didn't do so bad here in Blighty either.

Anyway, there's plenty more where that came from, including vikings, crazy people venturing into the sea, makeouts and some truly spectacular fireworks displays.

So check it out:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

On The 14th Day Of PlinXmas!

Right, after yesterday's not-very-festive offerings, I feel I should inject a bit more holiday cheer into the advent calendar today.

That there is a flare-wielding santa, wakeboarding across a lake in Germany and it is part of an excellent collection of photos showing how different parts of the world are kicking off their festivities.

From fireworks in Rio de Janeiro:

To the ski-slopes of Maine:

Everyone is getting into the spirit of the season. Check out the rest of the photoset Here.

What did one Snowman say to the other Snowman?

Can you smell carrots?

On The 9th Day Of PlinXmas!

Hey there.
Got something pretty amazing for you today behind door #9. It's a list of the top ten weirdest new species discovered this year as compiled by National Geographic. It's eye-opening stuff and it features this little fella:

I may have added the Santa hat in post production. So sue me.

Anyway, also featured are the likes of the Ninja Slug, the Yoda Bat and my personal favourite... The T-REX LEECH!

You can check out the whole top ten Here.

Kooky!

What do you get when you cross a Snowman with a Vampire?

Frostbite!

On The 3rd Day Of PlinXmas!

Phew, just made it in time. I'm having serious computer issues right now, so today's offering may be a bit sparse. Most advent calendars have the odd underwhelming day though, right?

I'll cut to the chase and present to you, the tastiest nativity scene ever made:

Mmm... Meaty.

See you tomorrow!

What do Santa's Little Helpers learn at school?

You'd Batter Believe It.

Evening. How are we all? Splendid.

Got a photoblog effort for you today. It's called Jim's Pancakes and it's about a dude called Jim who makes pancakes. However, in a similar vein to the previously-plinked Tiny Art Director (well worth checking in on again if you haven't seen it in a while), things are improved by the inclusion of a demanding little girl calling the shots.

When it comes to pancakes, I'm happy enough if I can make one that comes out round, but that's not good enough for Jim, or more specifically, Jim's daughter Allie. She'd rather have a Plane:

zoooooom!

or a Cheeseburger:

om nom nom!

or a... Ferris Wheel?

just... wow

Yeah, he's a talented guy. Read the rest of the Jim's Pancakes blog to see Sushi, a Crane, a Necklace and many more.

Injury Bloggers 4 U.

Evening. If you and I are well enough acquainted then you'll already know this, but I recently injured myself playing an extremely rugged and manly sport.

My ankle went and it hurt quite a bit. I assumed it would be fine and went home to bed, thinking it'd be fine after a night of rest. It was not. By the morning, it was badly swollen and I could not walk. So after a trip to the cruelly-named 'walk-in centre' at the hospital, it was determined that I have a grade-one sprain and am now in a cast and on crutches.

Fun times. The cast comes off tomorrow but I have no idea how long I will take to fully heal. In the meantime, I imagine I'll be doing a lot of sitting about.

Anyway, it just goes to show. Sometimes this blog can function as an actual weblog. Oh also, standing on one leg washing your hair in a kitchen sink is NOT. EASY.

Snappy New Year.

Welcome to space year 2010, everybody. Hope you all had a great night. I saw in the new year with some friends playing 'Ghostbusters' on Lego Rock Band, I trust you did something similar.

Anyway, I meant to plink this yesterday but I didn't get the chance to get at a computer. So I'd like you to come with me as we go back... IN TIME!

To yesterday, to be exact. Because just like last year, Boston.com have summed up the highs and lows of 2009 in photographs. Some of them are in due to recording historic events, and others are simply incredible pictures.

It's in 3 parts, 40 photos a piece.
Part 1.
Part 2.
Part 3.

You can use the J & K keys to move between pics without scrolling. Oh, and some of the pictures are potentially upsetting so steel yourself.

Happy New Year everyone, thanks for sticking with plinx. I'll try and keep you entertained for another year!

Pow! Oof. Pow! Oof. Pow! Oof.

Good afternoon. How is everyone? Glad to hear it.

Today's link is simple. It's a blog dedicated to sets of 2 or more photos that have been taken very close together. These are then turned into an animated .gif and the results are strangely, hypnotically, funny.

For example:

Hee!

The Whole Blog is pretty cool but it really peaks around about This One.

Close The Blast Doors.

Evenin' all. A humble photoset for you tonight, phrom phrench fotografer Stéfan. It's called Stormtroopers 365 and it consists of a creatively posed photo every day for a year of some posable Stormtrooper action figures. A simple idea maybe, but a good one with a surprising amount of variety.
But rather than wax lyrical about it, here are a few examples:

Hehe, I really recommend taking a look at the whole set because they're all ace and it was difficult to pick just a handful. Also, they look better full size, as it were.

What's Yellow And Runny?

I am!

Yeah, I may look a little bit goofy but that there is the look of a man victorious!
Another Great South Run in the bag. Managed to get a new personal best for running ten miles. Did it in 1 hour, 38 minutes. 7 minutes quicker than last year.

I also have raised somewhere between £250-£300 for Help The Hospices. So thanks to everyone who sponsored me!

End Of The Road 2009.

Evening all. Rather than furnish you with some of the usual plinx fare, I'm going to tell you a little bit about the festival I have recently returned from.

In short, it was brilliant. Everything I want from a festival, essentially. When you hear about some of the things it featured, you may think this is a sign of me getting old, and you'd probably be right.

But is it wrong to prefer libraries in the woods over oxygen bars? To prefer double decker buses serving tea over the carling tent? To prefer trees draped in thousands of fairy lights over portaloos on fire? Most importantly, is it wrong to prefer 5,000 awesome, fun-loving, gentle hippy types and a few peacocks over 80,000 mashed teenagers?

I don't think so, and if that makes me old. Well, so be it.

Because along with all the more gentile stuff, there is one hell of a good time to be had. Drinking decent pints and hot & spicy cider, dancing to tunes provided by guest DJs like Jarvis Cocker & Richard Hawley, laughing it up in the comedy pavillion, and the bands... Oh the bands.

For a start, they're everywhere! On the main Garden Stage, in the Big Top with it's spangly interior, on the local stage, or the tipi tent or just staging impromptu parties anywhere they can. The Woodland Disco. The Outdoor Room. It. Was. Incredible.

And just LOOK at the Line Up. Isn't it just crammed with all your favourite bands? Well no, it isn't.
At least, not before you arrive. Depending on how savvy you are, you'll know a few, but the real joy is in the discoveries. I'd never heard of The Dodos or The Low Anthem or Ohbijou or Josh T. Pearson or the Leisure Society or Dan Michaelson & The Coastguards. But now I have, and life feels that little bit better.

Look, I could bang on about it for ages, but you'll never know the real truth until you experience it yourself. So if you like the sound of a festival with a real tinge of magic to it, come to End of the Road. tickets are on sale for an Early Bird Price right now. Trust me, you won't regret it!

(all of the photos in this post were taken by the snap-happy Jane, who along with Chris, Nicola, Phil & Scott experienced all this wonder with me!)

Meet The Sandvich.

Hello, it's the end of the working day. I am hungry. Today's entry into the plinx hall of fame is not helping in the slightest. It's about sandwiches, INSANE sandwiches... Insanewiches if you will.

Well, even if you won't that's what the site is called so get over yourself, gawd.

It features gems like this, the Rubix Sandwich:

Have a look, but be prepared to be struck by uncontrollable sandwich-lust.

A Small Favour.

Just a quick one, if you've got a few minutes please can you go Here and vote for my friend Suneet's photos in an Australian photography competition please?

He's a great guy, he's got talent and I'd like to help him win. Voting closes tomorrow so vote a.s.a.p!

Cheers.

Rations.

Howdy doody. I am off to Latitude Festival tomorrow (squeeeee!) so I won't be here to keep you entertained for a while. I know you must be inconsolable, but it will be ok! I have a triple-bill of plinx to tide you over until my triumphant return.

I'm supposed to be packing right now so let's crack on shall we?

First, the most time consuming of the trio, it's a physics game! I like 'em, what can I say. This one is called 'Demolition City' and it is all about planting explosives in the correct places to bring down a building. It's fun and you can play it Here.

Next (oh yes, no mucking about today) is a rather eye-opening photoset which shows how newspapers, magazines, brochures, etc edit photos to either artificially insert or remove black people. It's quite shocking how flagrantly they do this and also how badly implemented it is! Case in point:

If you can't see what is wrong here or you'd just like to see some more examples, check out the Whole Set.

Last of all, this may seem like a strange one to include as it is a video about how to peel a banana. Anyone who knows me will know I don't eat bananas. Although it is a fun word to type! Banana. Hee! Ahem, anyway. But yeah, it turns out you've been peeling them wrong all this time. You dope! Check it out:

Youtube Link.

Enlightening! Anyway, have fun kids. I'll see you when I get back. Byeeeeee.
