I sat down at my computer for 5 minutes to try and find a decent christmas game for today's advent calendar and I happened upon Snow Line. It is now about an hour later and I have just finished it. Can there be a higher recommendation? I think not.

I've never really read Calvin & Hobbes. If you're unfamiliar with the concept, it's a set of comic strips about a lad (Calvin) and his stuffed tiger (Hobbes). Several people have told me that they're really good but I just never checked any of it out. Well, I just stumbled on this treasure trove and I may have to rethink my position somewhat. Essentially this is a collection of just the strips where Calvin builds snowmen. Sounds crap, right? Well have a gander at this and then see what you think:

So, now it's December, there are a lot more christmas decorations going up. Everyone has a street near them where the neighbours try to outdo each other, right? Addidng more and more lights, turning their house into a shining beacon that could potentially cause aircraft to try and land on their roof. Oh, and my favourite, putting blow-up santas, snowmen, reindeer & elves that wobble about looking cheap and tacky, just begging to be shot at with an air rifle. But I digress. Essentially, the people who live on the same street as this guy below... they may as well give up now.

PlinXmas Advent Calendar: Day 1!

Hello-ho-ho. Today marks the start of my link-based advent calendar! Every day until Christmas Eve, I will be providing you with a festive diversion to bring a bit of cheer to your otherwise unbearable* lives. Truly, I am the the very definition of the word 'hero'.

Today's one is a little app that lets you design a paper snowflake without any of the tedious mucking about with scissors and such. You can undo and redo every snip so you can really creat something beautiful... or you can knock up something rubbish in a few seconds. Like I have!

Oh well, who needs them? It just means they miss out on a funky animation about Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto meeting a few of his most famous creations. It makes me smile. That's all that matters.

Babelfish. As for me you. The is supposed; That re-close friend. But among one side, perhaps me shouldn't has done that kind of hypothesis concerning my audience. My impoliteness how. Babelfish is the online language translation equipment. You think that we want being translated, placing on the text which whether the translation which what kind of language, and the button hits and obtains is appointed. At least theory. Actually, there is contradiction. When it is naturally, disordered theory becomes settled, it becomes simultaneously, depending upon inside that large even with the which small mistake. Therefore if it should continue to translate on front and back, that more and more becomes verification impossible. Therefore it is this link to translate your text in language, to translate next and what which for the second time laugh with your mistake therefore can loudly. Funny ones!

This message has been to Japan and back. When it left, it looked like this:

Babelfish. I assume you're familiar with it. But then, maybe I shouldn't be making such assumptions about my audience. How rude of me. Babelfish is an online language translation tool. You put in the text that you want translated and specify what language, then hit the button and you get the translation. In theory at least. In reality, there are discrepancies. Of course there are, and as chaos theory dictates, any small error becomes bigger over time. So if you were to keep translating back and forth, it becomes more and more unrecognisable. So what This Link does is to translate your text into a language and then translate it back again so you can chortle at the errors. Fun stuff!

I... I... I'm not sure I can articulate the merits of this video. It defies description. I don't know if you need to have the mentality of someone stuck in an office on a slow day to enjoy it as much as I did but give it a go anyway. Then try and explain to someone why you love it!

Oh, in other news: Today I got an email from the guy who writes Dinosaur Comics and was quite starstruck!

Hey look, over there on the right. It's me! I'm actually thinking of putting some effort into this blog so that it doesn't look like thousands of others that picked this particular theme for their outpouring of unimportant toss. I didn't invest any effort into it to begin with because I assumed that I would get bored and wander off before long. But it's been... hold on, I'll check... holy crap! 8 months now and I'm still updating regularly so why not actually personalise it a bit. I made that approximation of me using a site called meez.com and it was actually pretty fun. Once you've designed your li'l fella/fellette you can assign one of hundreds of animations to make them dance about or perform other, similarly foolish manoeuvres. Give it a shot.

If that's not your cup of tea. Another of today's temporary diversions is the Google Game. No link with this one because you can probably find your own way to the necessary site in this case. All you need to do is type in "[your name] likes/loves to" into Google and find out what you like/love to do! For example:
"Paul loves to play the trumpet!"
"Paul like to chug. Chug, Paul, chug!"
"Paul loves to lol" *eyebrow raise*
"Paul likes to ride small bikes!"
"Paul loves to push the boundaries of Hip Hop!" (possibly my favourite)
"Paul likes to french kiss his cat!"

Try it yerself, and let me know if you can think of any other phrases that produce good results.

Hot Flashes.

Morning! Feeling a bit lazy? A bit lethargic? Well, why don't you get off your arse and charge about on rooftops jumping over things, sliding under things and flinging yourself across large gaps? Well, because it's absurdly dangerous of course. Don't be silly. However! There is a game out today called Mirror's Edge which enables you to do all this and more without leaving the safety of your sofa. It looks great. See? But the reason I bring it up here is because there is a flash version out as well which is also great! Hooray! You should Play It. Then, if you like it, you should play the (less polished, but better titled) other games this guy has made: Parts 1 & 2 in The Fancy Pants Adventure!
